Nowadays, dreaming of studying abroad is no more just a dream. The world has become a global village, with technology to talk with people from any corner of the globe and move fast to any part of the world in a matter of hours. In such a setting, Indian students who wish to study abroad have a wide variety of opportunities in front of them. Here are the most common and popular exams that help you to study abroad from India.

There are 3 main English language tests for students who wish to study abroad. These exams also are also used to test the English language proficiency of a non-native speaker who wishes to immigrate to an English-speaking country for work.

1.IELTS – International English Language Testing System

It is an English language assessment test, which follows the paper-based format. IELTS is owned, developed and organized through the partnership of the British Council & IDP, Australia. It is one of the most popular English Language Tests taken by study abroad, aspirants and it is globally accepted.

2.PTE – Pearson Test of English

It is an English language assessment test, which follows the computerised format. As the tests are completely computerized, the results are declared much quicker, in 5 days. This makes it suitable for students who are in a bit of a rush. Another aspect of this test is that it focuses on day to day English rather than university-level English language.

3.TOEFL – The Test of English as a Foreign Language

It measures how well non-native speakers of English can analyze and understand English at the university level. A TOEFL score is required for admissions to many colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and a few other countries.

4. SAT – Scholastic Assessment Test

SAT is a globally recognized college admission test mainly used to evaluate the written, verbal and mathematical skills of candidates. Applicants for undergraduate courses, particularly in the USA and Canada, are required to take the SAT exam. SAT scores are also accepted by quite a number of universities in Singapore.

5. ACT – American College Testing

American College Testing (ACT) is a standardized test for college and university admissions for the undergraduate degree in the USA. The ACT assesses college academic readiness of both native and international students. It has been developed to evaluate the written, mathematical, verbal and scientific skills of the candidates.

Depending on which college you are planning to apply for admissions, you can either write the SAT or ACT. Both these test can be taken by students who wish to study abroad after 12th, especially study abroad in the USA.

6. GRE – Graduate Record Examinations

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is another popular examination among Indian students aspiring to study in the USA, Canada, and thousands of graduate and business schools around the world. It measures the verbal, mathematical and general analytical skills of the candidate. Individuals applying to graduate schools, especially in the USA, in order to pursue a Master of Science (MS) or MBA are required to take the exam.

7. GMAT – Graduate Management Admission Test

This test is the number 1 choice for MBA aspirants looking to study abroad. It is an admissions test for top B-schools and management schools across the globe. It tests the skills needed in business & management such as problem-solving, critical & logical reasoning, analytical writing etc. GMAT is a compulsory part of the admission process of more than 21,000 universities/colleges in 114 countries. Average GMAT scores are in the range of 650 -670. For top schools, a score of at least 750 is needed.
